Ukrainian format festival “Unizh” in the Dnister Canyon

A center of Ukrainian youth movement is planned to be built over a few years here on the picturesque banks of the Dnister, in the village Unizh. The idea of the project is that the young people shall build it by their own hands and in a way they want it to be.

The first mass event held here was the Unizh Festival, the organization and concept development of which was made by the event agency “ArtPole”. The participants of it were such bands as Perkalaba (Ivano-Frankivs’k), Gaydamaky (Kyiv), Ot Vinta and Бреm Сtокер (Rivne), Propala Gramota (Kamianets’-Podil’s’kyi), Korolivs’ki Zaytsi (L’viv), Abzdolts (Kyiv), Ti Shcho Padayut’ Vgoru (Ternopil’), Rollik’s (Kherson), Mandarynovyi Ray (Cherkasy), Rura (Ivano-Frankivs’k), Martovi (Vinnytsya) and others.

There were discussion clubs in the frameworks of the Unizh Festival. In particular the discussion clubs regarding the modern Ukrainian literature featuring Yuriy Andrukhovych, the workshops of blacksmith’s work and drawing. The special event was a workshop of animation making under the direction of a famous Ukrainian director Stepan Koval’, the author of the animated film “Tram No 9” and “Miseries”. During this workshop was made an animated sequence about the Unizh. And of course there were some improvisations too, for example, the final day of the festival coincided with the EURO 2008 final game so the projection of its live broadcast was organized on a banner covered truck and the commentary was added by Sashko Lirnyk who had also been present on the festival.
