presentation of “Taistra Chugaistra”, the third album by BURDON in Kyiv

Chugaister of Burdon called to journey not only through the Carpatheans, but all over Ukraine and even through Balkans: in parallel to collecting songs from central part of Ukraine, Gutsul and Bukovyna folk songs - kolomyika - he also put together Guralean and Bulgarian songs, as well as Romanian and Balkan dances.
The musicians operate without electronic instruments to ensure better sound for the folk music that haven’t changed for centuries. That’s why they play the instruments whose sound calls to mind the long-forgotten world, such as fidel, the grandfather of violin, Balkan’s regional tapan and buzuki, eastern instrument drabuka, Ukrainian hurdy-gurdy, Gutsul’s drymba.
And yet Burdon does not claim to be fully authencical, they rather labour for modern sound of folk music: “Basically, we’re not so much creating our music, but interpreting the already existing, sometimes - existing for a long time. We’d loath to lose some pieces and we give them a new life. That is, we play ethnical hits. We try to reconstruct the ancient drive in present time”.
