12.12.2009 — New Ukrainian Cinema presentation during “Mykolayky Folkovi” in Lublin
“Mykolayky Folkovi” presents to the audience the culture of various peoples in all aspects: authenticity or world music, presentation or workshop, dance, craft, or, in our case, cinema and animation. For 19 years of its history, the Festival has become one of the most famous events in Poland and outside it, having acquired the international status. Existence of such powerful forum in the city is an essential argument for awarding to Lublin the title of “Cultural capital of Europe”, for which the city qualifies in 2016.
“Mykolayky” draws special attention to Ukrainian culture, and not only due to geographical neighborhood, but also to historical and cultural similarity. The Festival cooperates with the program “Ukraine in the center of Lublin” familiarizing the public, first of all, Polish youth, with all styles of Ukrainian art.
For three years in a row, ArtPole Agency has represented the selection of new Ukrainian movies here. This time, the animation works included those of famous animators, in particular, quite a new movie by Stepan Koval — “Staty Tverdym” (Becoming Firm), as well as works of ArtPole’2009 Festival animation workshop, where everyone could try hand at creating cartoons. The selection of documentary films comprised “Sviatylyshche Mriy” (Dream Sanctuary) by Sergiy Volkov, “Ne Strashno” (No Fear) by Kateryna Naumenko, “Davay” (Go It) by Kateryna Gornostay, and “Mama Pomerla v Subotu na Kukhni” (Mother Died on Saturday in the Kitchen) by Maxim Vasianovych— a story of father and son, the last concert and the first film, the choice between family and creation. In addition, the work of Ukrainian VJs has been represented for the first time, specifically, the video by VJ Group CUBE made by them during their
joint tour with Yuriy Andrukhovych and Karbido.
