A party «Bagatogolossya» (“Polyphony”) in the frameworks of the Gogol’Fest in Kyiv

In the frameworks of the Gogol’Fest the agency ArtPole organized a party called “Bagatogolossya” (“Polyphony”) which featured a combo of authentic singing “Drevo” (village Kryachkivka, Poltava reg.), a choir “Anchiskhati” (Tbilisi, Georgia) and an ethno-chaos band “DakhaBrakha” (Kyiv, Ukraine). The ArtPole’s party has become one of the most prominent events of the festival and the Mystetsky Arsenal venue was visited by a few thousands of people.

Participants info:
The Drevo combo is well-known far more than in Ukraine because of its unique technique of polyphony. The Drevo for the first time appeared in 1958. So far the third cast of it performs nowadays. The Drevo sings ancient (of XVIII-XIX cen.) songs of Poltava region and also the songs written or completed by themselves.

From the very beginning the musicians of the choir «Anchishati», which was founded in 1987, were interested only in the folk songs. Though a year after foundation of the choir the most ancient church of Tbilisi Anchiskhati was re-opened after the years of neglect. The musicians were invited to sing there during the religious services. Since that time every Sunday one has been able to listen to them in Anchiskhati, where the name of the choir came from. Today “Anchiskhati” is the most well-known Georgian church choir and one of the most popular folk choirs in the world. It gives a lot of performances in Georgia and other countries like Greece, Russia, Austria, Germany, Poland and France. “Anchiskhati” still conducts its ethnographic expeditions to the various regions of Georgia.

It’s been already four years since the «DakhaBrakha» band was founded and it has performed in the project of the Dakh theatre, on the numerous stages of the world – in the UK, Germany, Hungary, Georgia, Poland, Russia and others. The DakhaBrakha has demolished the off-format stereotypes because its art is based on the authentic folk Ukrainian, Russian, Bulgarian songs, boldly interlaced with the various rhythms and tunes of other nations.
