A great collection of instruments amassed in trips all around the world, from Pakistan to Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean, expressive vocal of Karel Herman, wild emotions and energy, natural combination of a rock base with different ethnic motives and as a result a unique sounding in world music – these things make up Cankisou, Czech Republic. Some of their compositions carry a ponderable imprint of this or that region (e.g. Mongolian Dense Ju or Arabic Sham Sut). But basically geographical identification of the music is both impossible and unnecessary.

Cankisou was created in 1999 on a Christmas party in Brno. Since then, the musicians decided to play music of Chanka people that disappeared several centuries ago. Chanka unlike present-day people had one leg instead of two that’s why they had to jump and thus communicate with the help of rhymes and vibrations. According to musicians, their vocalist, a smart, big and heart-stirring Karel, is able to feel namely these vibrations. And during the performance of Cankisou this legend do not seem to be so much incredible.

Cankisou pretty quickly became popular, started touring a lot, played at such  great events as Amsterdam Roots Festival, Wereldfeest (the Netherlands), Manapany Surf Festival on Reunion Island (France) and hundreds of others. In 2005 the band participated in World Performing Arts Festival in Pakistan, where the musicians performed together with Sain Zahoor. For the first time Cankisou appeared in Ukraine at festival “Sheshory”, and they were warmly welcomed. This time besides known hits they will play an entirely new program. Their new album presentation takes place in Czech Republic on October 12, on October 13 – in Ukraine, Odessa new club “Respublika”, and October 15 – at International Festival “Eastern Gates: ArtPole-Crimea”.
