July 12–18 — second edition of the international festival "ArtPole. Sounds/actions in space"

Amid the summer a piece of the salty Ukrainian south turned into a space of creativity and experiments. These two components comprised the concept of the International ArtPole Festival which has been unveiling new faces of different regions of Ukraine for six years in a row beginning from the Carpathian “Sheshory” editions. This time the creation of your own world was held at the lowest point – 5 meters below the sea level – on the shore of the Kuyalnytskyi Liman.
Representatives from Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Poland, Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, Italy, Bulgaria, Greece, Mongolia, Iran and others took part in the fest. Music format of this year ArtPole denied pure authentic music. Instead of it the festival welcomed the music which had quotes, reminiscences and appeals to the ancient. Therefore there were experiments and synthesis, unconventional incorporating of traditional instruments, ideas and ways of performance, e.g. live instruments with authentic vocals and electronics. From purely experimental music of  Port Mone (Belarus) and Kapela Kvety (Czech Republic) — through ethno-electronic combinations and ancient tunes intermingled with dub, trip hop and house of Ukrainian bands Piss&Laugh, Oyra and DakhaBrakha — to sincere and emotional dance music of Perkalaba (Ukraine), Gattamolesta (Italy), Di Grine Kuzine (Germany), Fatima Spar (Austria) and others. The art of open space is about understanding, interaction and playing with the surrounding. In addition to the music the festival featured cinema, theatrical performances and creation of objects in space.

It was a real laboratory of sounds and actions – the projects often emerged just in the middle of the fest hustle. The performance “Multiperson”, suggested by VJ-shop CUBE, consisted of visual efforts of VJs and actors of the Proty Nochi Theatre and audio ideas of Yuriy Zmorovych, Badian Sauna System and Margarita Kulichova – the musicians who came to the festival with their own projects. Also there was an unexpected experiment during the performance of the Port Mone trio, as the musicians had a chance to play with local cicadas which knew well the sounds of this area. In one of the old buildings of the resort Volodymyr Kuznetsov opened a “Museum” where he exhibited a pile of ordinary at the first glance and very weird artifacts. And these were just some examples. Because we still open new projects of the ArtPole.
