New concept from NEK — the suggestions from society

January, 15th, Kyiv – Action “AntiNCE: no censorship!”

The Action “AntiNEK: no to censorship!” initiated by the writers Serhiy Zhadan, Yuriy Andrukhovych, Andriy Bondar, and Les Poderevianskyi, magazine of cultural resistance “SHO”, event agency ArtPole, Scientific and Research centre of visual culture of NAUKMA, is a call to launching a series of public events of various formats aimed at discussion of activities of the National expert committee for public morals defense (NEK or Natskommor) and abolition of moral censorship in Ukraine.

There were a lot of questions during the action. For the answers follow the links given below. As regards to the main question “What should we do with NEK?” there were a few suggestions proposed:

• Society – the lawyers first of all – should control every decision of the NEK;
• Artists should explore tabooed topics more actively and develop more radical projects ;
• Publishers should ignore the censorship.

The action took place on January 15: press conference in UNIAN featuring such writers as Yuriy Andrukhovych, Les Poderevianskyi, Andriy Bondar, the representative of Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union Mr. Evgen Zakharov, TV presenter Mykola Veresen, artist Olexandr Roytburd and the chairman of National Union of Cineastes Mr. Serhiy Trymbach; and literature action in Cultural and Art Centre of NaUKMA featuring Yuriy Andrukhovych, Les Poderevianskyi, Andriy Bondar. The readings were quite overcrowded so not all the eagers could get into the hall as it could not accommodate more than 1 thousand of visitors.
