11.11.2011 at 19:00 — presentation of the new book by Yuri Andrukhovych "Lexicon of Intimate Cities"

Cultural and education centre "Master Class" (16 Lavrs'ka Str.).

The date of the official release wasn’t taken at random because in the book Andrukhovych tells 111 stories about 111 cities that he has been to. Though in those cities he experienced both pleasant and unpleasant moments, they were always of unique intimate – in broad sense – character. Placed in alphabetical order according to the geographical names, those texts of different genres (from essays and short stories to poetry in prose) make up an autobiographic writer’s world atlas being the largest by volume. “There are Kyiv, Lviv, Moscow, Warsaw, New York”, says Yuri Andrukhovych. “There is even Yenakieve. What concerns eastern Ukrainian cities, I wrote about Kharkiv, Poltava, Dnipropetrovsk. I didn’t write about Donetsk and Lugansk because I had spent not so much time in them and it wasn’t so adventurous.” There is no sense searching in this pretty subjective atlas some objective characteristics of the cities. But you can refer to it to get the atmosphere of a certain moment, to experience an adventure, to feel the place by touch, taste and colour.

“Lexicon of Intimate Cities” is the first prose project that will be performed at International Poetry Festival. “It happened so primarily because I act according to the principle “Why not?”, Yuri Andrukhovych comments on the co-operation with the festival. “From Meridian as a publisher I expect timely release of the book. Since the date of the presentation was determined of itself, we have no right to fail. Where there's a will there's a way.”
